⊱27) I got a brand new attitude
And I'm gonna wear it tonight
I'm gonna get in trouble
I wanna start a fight.⊰
We woke up early and we left to the Ferguson House at 9:30 am.We said our goodbyes to the Jacobs and Esther packed us an amazing lunch. But just before we left Esther told me privately,"Don't worry darling. June is indeed your mother. I can see her youth in you." And then she kissed me on my forehead like an elder sister I never had. "And I would do anything to see your Mama again." And so we parted.
We had an amazingly tiring evening. We reached home at 7:30pm where,as we expected, Hera's parents looked super mixed with emotions- 25% worry 25% anger and 50% excitement.
"Oh my babies!" Mrs Ferguson came over and gave us a group hug and after sometime she started choking us.
"That's for leaving me all worried you brats."
Mr Ferguson the more quiet said nothing and left to his study after observing what was happ.ening.
And that was just our usual meet and greet. Obviously after we ate our fill we were grounded to our room for life. Or at least till Easter. Jolly good Gov'ner. (Dunno why I said that.)
"Umm, so what do we do now ? There's nothing left. Is this what we get...nothing?" Hera said to me as we got ready for bed.
"I wish it weren't Hera. I really wish it weren't."

My eyes wide open. Soft snoring from my bud in the next bed. I just can't sleep. Then I see from the corner of my eye, a shadow of a figure walking past the door. I wanted to scream then and there. But I put my hand over my mouth. I can't wake everybody up just because I thought I saw someone.
Nevertheless I stood up and I took my torch/flashlight which was on the side of my bed and I went down the stairs to take a drink of water. Slowly I walked down the creaky steps to my oasis. The darkness brought my heart to a stand still. There was absolutely no noise, and that creaped me out more. I saw the light in the half op.ened door of the living room. And the clock ticking ringed in my ears. There was someone there. I thought twice about op.ening the door. What if it was my worst nightmare? Like a random thief or just another horse in the living room (what are the chances that?). But then I gathered my courage from where all it had fallen on the stairs. I op.ened the door. It was scarier than I thought it was. She was. I said,
"Nana!"

"I remember the time when you played cricket with the boys and you actually hit poor Uncle Wes in the head. Good times those. Then came the dreaded floods. We lost everything and everyone. We lost you and my dearest baby Esther. My Marvin's heart couldn't take anymore from that day onwards. He's had a lifeless existence ever since. But here you are again." she said in her frail granny-ish voice.
I didn't know what to say. I took a glass and I poured water from the jug. And I sat on the sofa.
"Then you came to me one faithful night. All the way from Pegram! But no one knew about it. It was a night. Just like this one. But you looked older than look now." she said ever so slowly that it could test one's patience.
I was going to say 'Then what?' but that might sound too mean to my probable great granny. So while I was thinking to tell her continue, she said,
"You said you wanted to come back to the family. But then the others woke up. Specifically Marvin woke up. He told me,'Get her out of my sight! She takes my baby and then tells me she want to come back to the family! How dare she!'
You argued that,'I only took her to save her from the flood Uncle Marvin!'
But he didn't waver from his anger,'Then where is she? Where?'
You said,'She's safe and in a better place than here!'
'YOU KILLED HER!' he charged at you.
'No, I didn't!'
You tried hard to change your statement and explain but that didn't change Marvin and eventually you had to run away. I tried to get you back to the house but you ran my dear. You ran and my cries never reached you... "
So that's why she wasn't in the Ferguson house. She was pushed away. But then the little tinker in my brain thought up something.
"Will Uncle Marvin let ummmm me back home if I bring back Esther on Easter day?" I said.
"You know where Esther is?",she stood up with that frail little body.
"Yes,and I can bring her back if you want me to. And will you recognize the older me when she comes on Easter?"
"Yes I believe so."

That was it! We can still bring back our family together. On Easter too! A family miracle.

So can we finish what we started

Come on, that's right, cheerio. ⊰
And so, on the much awaited Easter day, all of us were prepared for the best and the worst. My family came- mother, father, Alistair and Abigail. So did Esther's. Our reunion(s) went something like this-
My dad's car was just parked in the field space where all the other Ferguson's parked their vehicles. My mother came and hugged me and wished me happy Easter. But she looked a little ruffled, just like I thought she would. You see my mom has a bit of motion sickness and so she usually sleeps the whole way if she didn't want to throw up. So I'm pretty sure the house and the scenery didn't really register until she hugged me.
"Oh My Gosh!" she exclaimed whilst putting her arms over me and seeing the sight behind us. But there was a new visitor. The Jacob's had arrived. Esther ran out her car and came towards me. She panted on the back of the woman who was still hugging me. She's getting heavy. Was she fainting on me?
"Mama June?" she said in between her panting.
"No one's called me that since..." My mother slowly turned towards her baby cousin.
"...Since me." Esther said tilting her reminiscent head and started getting really emotional. They held on to each other like they didn't want the other one to run away from them.
I knew it! I looked at Hera to my side. MY MOTHER IS JUNE! AND WE WERE COUSINS!
But Joshua didn't look too good. Alistair acted like he'd grown up since the time I was gone and looked like he didn't care about the beautiful scenery around him, and buried his head in his cellphone. But my Abbey! She ran right into my arms. I soon hugged my dad and got over all the formalities. We entered the house with my mother and Esther holding each others hands. I soon realized, that the baby in the photo with my mother wasn't me. The photo that first lead me to believe that my mom was related to the Ferguson's. I reasoned that she got married when she was 29 years old. So the baby was baby Esther!
There were mixed feelings with the members of the Ferguson family. I'm not going to bore you with all the introductions, explanations and the tears of joy that was spread over the floor. Uncle Marvin held on to his daughter with his dear life. He then begged forgiveness of my mom and she forgave him that instant. And Nana looked super happy, not really sure what was happ.ening. All was well in the Ferguson household.
My mother told me what happ.ened after the fight later that evening. "After that I was so devastated that I ran and traveled to the nearest city got a job. Later your father found me. We fell in love and the rest is History." She smiled and kissed my forehead. And I in turn promised to relate the details of our investigation to her once we reached home.
Gale was chatting up to Hera and it just looked like he just asked her out, because I saw them going outside to 'talk', if you know what I mean. (If you didn't, it means they're going to make out genius!)
But where was my Joshua? I haven't seen him since the beginning of the day. And he looked extremely good in his plain light blue full sleeved shirt and waist coat. And not to mention, I looked my best today in a plain cream dress.

The morning church service was over and most of us retired to our rooms. Because the evening that awaited us was held in the most dreamy and spectacularly romantic place in the Ferguson house. The chicken coop. Never thought you'd hear that again did ya? The men worked on the make-shift coop all morning. By 6 pm, we were up and running around the Ferguson house. The women started taking their punch bowls and snacks inside the coop. I wonder what was inside?
Hera and I were getting ready. Trying our various hairstyles, zipping up our best dresses, and doing our eyes with shaking fingers. Who knew what was going to happen in the party! Hera was escorted by the handsome Gale. He offered to take me too, but I declined. Still hoping for my Joshua. Where was he?
I went into the beautifully decorated coop. Alone. There was a disco ball and a few couples on the dance floor. The party was slowly getting more crowded and more couples went on to the dance floor. I even saw Hera and Gale on the far corner. But no Joshua.
"Mom, I got to ask you. Why did you keep so many hard clues for us to find? In the vineyard and all?" I asked her.
"You actually found those? Wow! Actually I left it for my sister, April. We used to feel so bored and we read a lot of Sherlock Holmes then that we created our own mysteries. So when the news of the flood came, I only changed the letter in the book, and buried it in the time capsule, and the clues were already prepared since our last game. I expected April to find it. But apparently she had some trouble on her own. Getting over the passing of her sister and her dear cousin and all."
My mother held hands with the lady sitting next to her. "Ariel , meet your aunt April."
"I have an aunt!" We hugged and smiled and talked for a long time.

As the evening started to turn more dark and exciting, many of them tried to ask me to dance, but I declined because I wanted my first dance to be with Joshua. I went to the make-shift food storage room, tired of sitting in the chair. It was attached to the coop, you see. But then I got a glimpse of Joshua and his mother inside it. There was a serious atmosphere around them. I hid behind the wall trying to listen to what they were saying. It was wrong, but it was also wrong for him to ignore me like that.
Suddenly I saw Mr Marvin walking towards his daughter asking for a dance. No wait, its UNCLE Marvin now. then something clicked. Uncle...Uncle...that means related to the Ferguson's...that means Hera's my cousin...but isn't Joshua her cousin too? Oh my gosh!! I'm so blinkin' dumb! We're related! I can't date my cousin!
But Joshua voice interrupted my thoughts, when he started talking to his mother.
"I love her, mother. I don't care if we're related, but at the same time I am. What should I do? It's impossible fer me not to love her."
Aww... Eww...I don't know.
"Well, I have something I should've told you a long time ago."
"What is it mother?" he asked.
"You're real name is Joshua Alfred Xavier-Ferguson."
"What?"
"Yes, you were my first husband's son. But he died in an accident before you were born. And when you were a baby I had a lot of trouble in making ends meet. But your current father came to my...our help. We fell in love and got married. He was there for us. So I wanted you to avoid the confusion of who your dad was and changed your name. But that doesn't mean I don't remember your biological dad.
So in short, you are not related to the Ferguson's by blood."
Oh My Gawd! No way! I can still love him...No Ariel, don't cry. Walk away slowly.
"Ariel! What are you doing here?"
He found me. Looks like he was prepared to run.
"Did you hear everything?"
I nodded. Tears formed in my eyes.
He held on to my neck and brought our lips closer. We kissed in the deserted hallway. We soon made way to the dance floor and had an amazing time.
Once the party ended, which was pretty late, I hugged the sleeping Abigail and whispered to her small ear, "I'll tell you all about it when you turn 16."
