See you in September- chapter two!
If our fate is set from the moment we are born, are what we call choices even choices? Is whatever we decide, whatever we say, whatever we think, fated to be? Is anything we do independent? Will we ever know? This is what I’ve been thinking about ever since it happened. Ever since he left my life. Because if it was fate for us to meet, then was it fate for us to part in such a cruel way? Was it fate for us to never be together, and yet we found each other anyway? Was that why we were ripped apart? Or is fate just a cruel being, putting good in people’s lives, only to destroy it and throw it away?I guess I’ll never know.I can still remember the promise we always made. Every time we parted ways, we’d always promise. Every time.He promised. He promised me, and now his promise is broken. If I close my eyes, I can still see his face, still hear his voice as he promised."See you in September."

Chapter 1
"Hey Alice, you know you're supposed to keep your eyes on the road, right?" my dad told me.You see, he was teaching me how to drive. He was looking stiff and sweaty on the seat next to mine, holding on to the handle bars like his life depended on it. Well, with me driving, I guess it did. Last week he had me parallel park. Well wasn't that fun? For me maybe. But my father's blood pressure had shot off the roof. Poor guy.
And now here he was, risking his life again. My hero!
Great! Now my father was meddling with the volume.
"Hey! Don't stop the music," I pushed his hand off the volume controller playfully and put it back to it's original setting,"This song's my jam!" And I started singing and laughing hysterically. I was also looking out of the windows and was having a joy ride. But when I turned the corner, my dad's face went blue.
"STOP!?" he shouted. And before he even finished saying it, I hit the brakes. The car skidded and stopped with a thud. And that's when I saw a guy in jogging gear right in front of the car. His eyes were round with shock and his hand was on the hood of the car. I guess he hit his hand on the car just before it stopped in front of his knees. God, he was so close to death and if it wasn't for my dad, he would be.
My dad opened the door and ran towards the boy. I couldn't hear what he was saying because I was inside the car, spacing out. I looked at my white fingers on the steering wheel and heard the world go in slow motion around me. I heard my breathing loudly. My ears heard nothing until ...
"Kiddo what are you doing? Are you alright?" my dad said, apparently the only person who had a stable mind. He was right next to me now. He had opened the car door and was acting like a canopy.
I broke free from the shock and told him,"Yeah, I'm fine. Is he alright?" I slowly slid my head down the steering wheel. I don't want him to see me. He might curse me for life.
"Yeah, he's fine, nothing's broken or bruised. We stopped before it could hit him...and I think you owe him an apology." he said calmly and firmly. He was right, as usual. "Can't you say it for me dad?" I said. But he gave me one of his stern looks and I knew I had lost my case. "Why are you afraid, he's the victim here, not you." he tried to help me out of the cushion-y comfort of my car's chair.
"Wait! What if he hates me? What if he slaps me across the face? What if-" I panicked but I stopped the second I got a clear view of the scene.
"-he's gone?"
There was no one in front of the car. He left.

Chapter 2
The next day, I sat in my room, leafing through old magazines I had snuck from Mom's room, completley bored. Because of the incedent from yesterday, Mom and Dad had agreed that I wouldn't b allowed to drive the car for a week, and I was grounded until I found the guy I had almst run over and apologized. How did they expect me to do that?! I'd never seen him before, so he obviously didn't go to my school. I didn't know where he lived, what school he attended, his grade, not even his name. How could I find him in a big city like this? And to make it more difficult, it was almost definite that he would be trying to stay away from me.
I sighed and swiched over to the newspapers. None of the articles were any more interesting than the maazines, which held grotisque ideas that were "miraculous" in helping you lose weight. As if.
I tossed the newspaper on the floor and walked over to the window. It was a normal day with the usual weather of Binghamton: flat, grey clouds covering the entire sky. The sun couldn't peirce through, so the streets looked gloomy and forlorn. It wasn't pitch-dark, mind you, but it wasn't very light out either. I sighed again. What a boring place binghamtopn was.
Suddenly, a face popped up on the other side of the glass. "Hey, girl!" she said in a texan accent.
"Gaah!" I jumped, startled. It took another second for my brian to stop yelling OMG, stranger trying to kidnap me! Stranger danger! and remember who this was.
"Kaylee! You gave me a heart attack!" I exclaimed.
"Sorry. Just wanted to stop by and say hello," she said, adjusting her straw-coloed cowboy hat. "I got your text about getting grounded, so I didn't bother knocking on the front door."
"Dude, if my parents see this I'm in big trouble," I said, irritated.
"I know, I know!" She tapped on the glass. "I think we could hear each other easier if you pulled up the window, no?"
I lifted the window so that only the screen stood between us. Kaylee leaned foreward, her arms pressed againts the legde. "Listen. I've got enough money for two people to go to Skate Estate, plus some extra for pizza and stuff. Shaunee is out shopping with some friends, and Jackson is busy with a basketball game. It'll be just the two of us-"
"Hold on. I'm grounded. Mom and Dad would never let me." I interrupted.
Kaylee smirked, her long, rbrown hair stirring in the breeze. "Since when did you ever listen to your parents?" she smiled at me.
I held her gaze. I knew she was testing me, knowing that I never liked to listen to my parent's rules. I debated on it in my head, chewing m lip. Then I smiled.
Kaylee knew me too well.
"Alright, let's go," I said, popping off the screen.
"Atta girl!" Kaylee said happily. "I knew you couldn't refuse."
I put one leg throgh the window, then stopped. "Hold on," I said, puling it back in. I grabben my doorknob hanger that said Shh, Im sleeping! and opened the door, sliding the hanger onto the knob. Then I closed the door, locking it just in case.
"Good idea. Now, get out here before your parents come knockin'," Kaylee said, beckoning. "We'll hop right into my car and drive stright there."
"Can I drive?" I said, holding back my exitment.
"Nope."
"Aww."
"Be glad I'm taking you along, King!" Kaylee sent me a wink over her shoulder.
We hurried over the lawn, quickly getting inside the convertable. Kaylee pulled the cover back up so that my parents wouldn't see me inside. Kaylee turned the key in the ignition, and we were on our way.
