The Other Side of the Serene Waters Empty The Other Side of the Serene Waters

A/N:IDK if this'll become a oneshot or something else.
I wrote this as a school essay, so, baaaaai! Laughing

I know what my grammatical errors and other stuff are.  Embarassed

It's angry.
What's angry, you ask? Well, to answer your question as bluntly as possible; the sun.
I'm Hazel Smith. I live next to the sea, or perhaps ocean. I'm 16 - turning  17 next month.

Moving back to my living next to the sea -I mean ocean-, I'm not the daughter of some 'surfer dude', thank you very much. Actually I'm the daughter of the prime minister's second in hand. Yes, I live with the girly aura, although I have no idea how I do it. As cliché as it may sound, I'm a tomboy. Tomboy may not be a very good word her, I like keeping my hair long, but NO makeup! It's called 'makeup' for a reason.

Oh, sorry, I tend to babble off topic a lot. Wait, I'm not talking, so what would it be calle-
You get the point.

I'm a tomboy. Fine. Happy?

Why am I at the sea (I'm not even going to bother putting in the word 'ocean')? Two words; stubbornness. Wait- that's one, isn't it?
Yes, I am stubborn, and determined. I have a compromise with my parents not to prank any officials, in return, I get to go to the sea.

People have weird hobbies. I have swimming. Hey, swimming isn't that weird, right? I'll admit, it isn't common, but it's not like no one like swimming?
I'm making a fool of myself, aren't I?

I glance up at the sun - still angry - and see it dipping into the horizon. Kind of like when you dip nachos into cheese sauce, except that the sun was round. And red.
I love sunsets, they make you feel so warm and fuzzy. The same feeling you get when you re-read your favourite book.

I loved seeing the blue sea red, and purple. I know, you're wondering, 'Hazel, there's no purple!'
Well, if you haven't noticed the purple, either you haven't seen a sunset, or you don't care about the colour purple. Both of them are a crime in my book.

I untie my Nike '<3 life!' sneakers, and set them aside. I then put my warm laptop away, next to the sneakers. Untie my hair because I hate keeping it in a pigtail.
I run with the speed that would have made Usain Bolt proud, and jump in the sea.

If you've seen sunsets, and admired the contrasting colours, the sea at sunset is even better. Yellow pools of light shine over the cobalt blue corals. Then there are dolphins, fun little creatures who bob into and out of the water. I once injured my leg partially because fell into the water too hard.

That's the main reason I've been banned from swimming. But, it's not like I'm really going to stop, and besides it's been eight years. My parents have loosened up a bit.

I felt the cool waters splash against my skin.
I recall what I learn about fish…
With well over 24,000 extant species currently known, the world's fish comprise by far the largest of all vertebrate groups.

Well that was certainly useful. I looked downward to see striped clownfish gracefully swimming towards me. It tickled as they brushed past me. I was accustomed to holding my breath for 12 minutes. I know, they say that you loose a brain cell or something like that if you hold your breath that long. I really don't care about it that much since Id do anything for the sea, or swimming.

I swim above to get a gulp of air. The air over the sea is the sweetest, not like the dirty one over an industrial area.
After another breath of air, I dive back into the now orange waters.

I see a school of puffer fish; green in colour apart from their white bellies. They had small spikes - about five centimetres long. From their size and spikes, these fishies were two months old. If I had to be a fish, I'd be a puffer fish. No questions. I mean, they can laze around all day, without the worry of being easily eaten because of their spikes. Plus the way they bob around their little fins is cute.

It's been five minutes since I've been underwater. Seven minutes to go.

I decided to be a little daring and go back to where I once saw a shark. I know that a shark so close to shore couldn't be really big. And I bet I could swim faster than a shark. Okay, maybe not, but there wasn't much chance of me getting hurt.

I swam underwater, passing by a fleet of coral. There were so many corals in a line, so it seemed as if they were blocking me from going to the 'shark's area'. Remember I mentioned I was determined? This would be a good example to demonstrate that.

The tallest coral was over thirty feet and I had to swim around it. My head began getting a little dizzy, and I took in another gulp of that sweet, sweet air. Back into the water. The sunset had now dissipated into the evening. And this was my favourite part, when it's nearly over, you get to see the sun shine on the water in an amazing way. I loved seeing it. Although, there were some areas where the sunset was still present, mostly around the ferocious wildlife.

I decided to swim above. I wanted to see that shark. I had no idea what species it was, hence I wanted to find out. There's a saying around these parts, 'An unknown fish is as bad as a rotten fish.' I don’t like rotten fish, so it's be better to find this creature out.

I saw a fin. And not small fins like those of a goldfish. HUGE ones. These fins were as white as white gets, except a small scar.
I dove underwater to see a monster.

Generally speaking, this shark was smaller than most, but quite big. Larger than I had expected it to be. I was getting nervous that I might get killed or at least badly injured. Then gain, I had discovered a new species! If I got out of this - which was easy - I'd be famous!

And then I did something stupid.

I had once heard that sharks were very possessive of their territory. And it was a true fact. The moment I came into - I mean passed the corals - I was stared at by angry red eyes. Or, I think they looked red. The shark rushed towards me with the speed of a small tornado,  and all I could do was simply float there and brace myself for the impact. The shark swam faster and faster, until I realized that I could win this easily. I held my arms outstretched, and I collided with the shark's fin. Basically, some sharks have a curve from the eyes to the fin. This made me go over - and onto the shark!

I held the shark's fin desperately, not wanting to let go. I tried to steer it by tilting the fin left and right, but it was of no use. I was a helpless, foolish girl. Was I really this stupid? I pushed away these thoughts and focused on what the shark was doing. It was trying to throw me off onto this flat rock (which looked like obsidian, really).

And then I fel onto it, legs first. This was not a good thing, but it was better than my head. The shark was eyeing me hungrily. As if saying You're not  done yet, little girl. I could feel the adrenaline in my head, it blocked out everything else. I saw something hit the shark's fin, diverting its attention. I focused and saw some pebbles. Just as I was turning my head to see who - or what - was hitting the shark, I got hit myself.

This is one of those times when I really pity myself, and my dignity. I could feel my vision going black - but my senses were sharper. The pebble had hit the top part of my head, I had no idea exactly where.

The next thing I remember were voices. And then blackness.

What will happen to me?
