One morning before sunrise:
"Don't go, I need you. And not just that, you'll need me too.
One day I'll try to do the same, just like you."

Alice Lana Peters is an ordinary everyday human, living in the daylight. But her friend lives in the night. It gets hard to communicate because there are awake at different times of the day. One night Alice decides to visit her friend but they aren't there. She discovers that nocturnal humans don't just live in the night - they're hostile. Alice never had seen her friend again.. Until one night.

C H A P T E R 1 ;; C H R I S T M A S

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

"Alice! Alice!" I recognised the voice right away. I looked away from my phone, my eyes focused on my friend, Rose.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Have you received a gift yet?" Rose replied, smiling. You could tell she was excited, and I knew exactly what she was going to do.
"Nope. Not yet anyway," I said. "And.. What's this?" I pointed at the lavender and purple box neatly wrapped in emerald ribbons.
"It's for you! I knew you'd notice!" Rose exclaimed. She handed the gift to me. "I had made it myself."
I untied the ribbon and opened the box carefully. I pulled out the gift that was inside. A knitted candy floss pink scarf came out. "Thanks so much!" I said, hugging Rose tight. "I'm really sorry but.. I don't have anything to give to you to pay you back."
"You don't need to give anything. I'm just glad I could give this to you!" Rose grinned. "Oh, I forgot. I have a question."
"Yes, what is it?" I said.
"Where did Daniel go? He's been missing out school for 2 weeks now and no-one knows where he is." Rose replied. She started to look worried.
I stumbled to say any words for a bit. "I er.. Really don't know." I just got reminded something. I had to give a gift to him.. But how?
"You don't know either? You've got to be kidding me.." Rose trailed off, starting to wipe tears from her eyes. "No one understands or knows.. It's.. Just weird!"
"I think I know where he is," I said, thinking if I should tell Rose or not. "Actually, never mind."
"Argh. Anyway, I better get goin'. Mum's probably gonna start worrying about me," Rose said, sniffing at a few parts. "See ya."
"Bye," I said as I started walking in the other direction.

I decided not to head home yet. I wanted to head to the park, where I had seen something moving the other night. It was 7:08pm, and it was already dark. I couldn't see at all - stupid human eyes just weren't good enough. I could hear the sounds of the big water fountain that was in the middle of the park. I smelt something gruesome and yucky, but I didn't know what it was. I was just sitting there for a few minutes completely still, just doing nothing. I felt completely bor- "BAM!"
What was that? I thought. Suddenly a light turned on that blinded my eyes. "Hey you!" I randomly started swinging one of my arms around while the other was covering my eyes. I hoped that I would slap something at least, otherwise I'd be embarrassed. "You can stop doing that you know," a voice said. The light was lowered, making me able to see. Wait.. Doesn't that guy look familiar? I said to myself. My eyes were still blurry, but I could at least see something. A guy with a slick hairstyle and brown hair was standing in front of me. I could just about see his leafy green eyes.
"Daniel!?" I said.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Why did you just randomly go? Everybody wants to know where you are," I answered, taking a look at where I was. I was in a simple, dark and shady room that contained no colour. The only things that were in the room was a grey couch, an old oak table with a broken but somehow still working lamp on it.
"I.. I didn't mean to but I just had to. You see, I'm nocturnal and I can't help it. I turn hostile and scary at 9:00pm sharp. I live in the forest and I find it hard to get to school. I get lost and.. Scared." Daniel paused for a second. "I can't do anything about it. Daylight is my weakness. The only thing I can't go in."
"Why don't you wear a hat? Easy!" I said.
"Alice, I'm sure you've seen the people tease me. Even when I try to stand up to them it just never works," Daniel said. He sat down on the couch beside me. "Look, you can't stay here for forever, you know. Like I said, when it turns 9:00pm, I'll be hostile."
"Yes, I know but it's only 7:21pm," I said. "It's not that late."
"Well, whatever," Daniel said. He leaned closer to me.
"Daniel, you need to go to school again!" I exclaimed. "If you're like a vampire or not, you need to return."
"But I can't!" Daniel said.
"Well, I'll walk to the park tomorrow so you can meet me there. Try not to get lost, okay?" I said, standing up.
"Ok then. Very well, you better start heading home. No food here, I'm afraid," Daniel said, standing up as well. We looked at each other for a moment. It looked like both of us wanted to kiss, but it just turned out to be a hug.
"Goodbye," I whispered. "Merry Christmas."
And in a second, I was back at the park, again.
